ain't no stopping mrs. lucy sky. thats for sure, the former fashion director of marie claire magazine launched lucy sky baby in the fall 2005 + then followed up this february with lucy sky ny ready-to-wear. i have to say... i love it, really. having a boy herself, she draws from her own experiences and inspirations to create chic duds for little minis: girls + boy, and most importantly mama's too. a tweed, tailored “Mick Jagger” jacket and reversible cashmere? heaven, heaven to my ears. now that is absolutely uptown boy style, classic with a touch of whimsy. this baby glam line lets your baby look as chic as you. okay, shirtdress for mama [$395.00 US] + hmm, which top for my little bubba today...paul jacket $143.00 US, euen short sleeve shirt $105.00 US or navey + white stripe tracksuit hoodie $105.00 US? maybe stripes today.

brain freeze

is it a miracle you haven't left the baby behind in starbucks yet? have that hazy-new-mom-foggy-brain from sleepless nights? how on earth are you supposed to remember which breast junior last fed from? never fear! in steps the nursing bracelet, an novel new design fashioned by a brooklyn mom that works as a wearable reminder. its unique loop design makes it straightforward; no messing with tiny clasps while your baby wriggles in your arms. beads are set like a 12-hour clock with number beads representing each hour and glass or semiprecious beads representing 15-minute intervals. the moveable charm can be placed anywhere on the bracelet to mark the time of baby's last feed. following nursing on one breast, simply switch the bracelet to the other side and you'll know where to start the next feed. the wristlet also works to keep track of wet diapers, glasses of water drunk in a day, or anything else you need to count.
no matter what it is, whenyou have a baby - help is good.

oh, JOEEEEEE-YYY!

'joe fresh style TM is a fashion oasis. where else can you shop for fresh oranges, shampoo, a few storage bins and a chic new trench coat? next time you're picking up groceries, take a stroll through the joe fresh styleTM department - up to 10,000 square feet of it.'
catch it quick, its been introduced to the canadian fashion diva market via supermarket to knock wal-mart [wal-who? so cheap + generic...ewe!] out of the water. it will emulate one of my great US faves.....TAR-JAY!
go gettem' canadiana! go gettem joe!
brought to you by: '...joe, as in joseph mimran, the man synonymous with canadian fashion. he is, after all, the dynamic force behind three of canada's greatest canadian retail success stories - alfred sung, club monaco and caban....collaborates with us on our widely popular president's choiceTM home collection. [you know those sleek and simple PCTM kitchen accessories, the stainless steel cookware and the crisp linens? joe and his team designed them.]'.
i couldn't have said it better myself. shop joe fresh canada! no one says style better than joseph mimram, who also does private-label work for loblaw and toronto-based holt renfrew & co. ltd., both headed by billionaire mr. galen weston.

to my anonymous commenter: number one, thank you for commenting! really, thank you. hip-hip- horray to 725 + BUM for finagling their way into the american market and making themsleves known over the border and still standing strong in their market in canada. as for wal-mart ....well, they are indeed ranked with top honours on the 'worst in retail design' for another concectutive year. need i say more? their in-store retail experience leaves little to be desired, we shop target for all our economical needs....besides what better motto than 'design for all' at target. for now canada you'll just have to shop over the border to find your cheapy designer goods, otherwise there's always joe fresh!

coral luxury

coral, its everywhere........
kudos to paul for his comment and bringing up a great issue: yes, it is true threats to coral reefs are leading to a multitude of problems for reefs today. 58% of the world's coral reefs are potentially threatened by human activity. coral reefs are found in 109 countries. Significant reef degradation has occurred in 93. we have already lost 27% of the world's coral reefs. if present rates of destruction are allowed to continue, 60% of the world's coral reefs will be destroyed over the next 30 years. a good way to imagine a coral reef is to think of it as a bustling city or community, with the buildings made of coral, and thousands of inhabitants coming and going, carrying out their business. In this sense, a coral reef is like a metropolis under the sea. corals grow at different rates, depending on water temperature, salinity, turbulence, and the availability of food. the massive corals are the slowest growing species, adding between 5 and 25 millimeters (.2 inches to an 1 inch) per year to their length. branching and staghorn corals can grow much faster, adding as much as 20 centimeters (8 inches) to their branches each year. read more here.

so, in this instance a good fake is a great design trend solution, try one of these ideas:

evocative of the mystifying beauty of the undersea world, the crystal ocean reef bowl is framed in a crystal branch of coral. the strikingly pure reef bowl is cradled in a branch coral form cast in pure Steuben crystal. the contrasting qualities of the cast reef and the elegant simplicity of the bowl speak to the mysterious textures and beauties of the underwater seas, overindulge at $23 000 US at steuben glass by michele oka doner designs 2006.

a handcrafted wonder to hang on high, perfectly mimicking graceful coral branches, this chandelier is actually made of steel with a powder-coat finish. new hip and colorful crib bedding from dwell baby, a playful and modern coral motif. dwell baby crib sets are designed to include reversible quilts, bumpers, skirts, blankets and accent pillows, to allow more choices for coordinating patterns and colors in your contemporary nursery.

coral-like plastic creation, filigreed, flexible and yet strong. algues is a finely branched, asymmetrically shaped object that is 12" high, 8" wide and slightly less than 2" deep. when viewed alone, it simply looks like a uniquely poetic, decorative design element. however, algues are actually conceived as modular components of interior architecture. thanks to 19 ring-like eyes at the end of their branches, algues can be easily joined together with small plastic pegs at one or several points. in this way, it is possible to construct interwoven structures of substantial dimensions. potential configurations range from a delicate web that could be used in place of a curtain or as a trellis for climbing plants, to an impenetrably dense plastic hedge consisting of several layers of interconnected algues that serves as a room divider. the bouroullecs have once again created a product that reflects their unconventional and innovative approach: the people who buy algues are not merely consumers, but participants in the design process. manufactured by vitra. available in red, green or white. sold in a set of 6, $30.00 US at unica home. this one is my persaonal faux coral favorite.

prague pedigree

i am a bit sleepy but in the words of my son... 'i have to' post about this one.

these guys if you know them, have been around NYC for awhile [in DUMBO actually]. i'll let you catchup on their rather interesting background. i like' em, never met them, but i dig their style. definitely a place to wander through after coffee and the sunday times but worth it if you are on the hunt to freshen up your mid-sixties modern pieces. they are the only company in north america specializing in original czech lighting, decorative objects and furniture. [think simple lines and lots of lacquer] this one pictured is my absolute favorite, a hanging lamp, $1,200, prague kolektiv, (718) 260-8013 or info@praguekolektiv.com. CZECH them out!

p.s. the little guy is 50% czech, so i just had to give a shout out to this stylin' duo. 'na shledanou'

let me have one cheesy moment will ya?
david vosovic, santino rice or chloe dao?

yes, even though canada's viewers are a bit behind we do get national broadcasting. so when i saw the trio on the today show yesterday it was a relief to see david and chloe still in the running. we just saw the 'garden party' episode this week.
go away santino, go away. let the games begin!
david or chloe? david or chloe? hmmmm, i pick david, he has the whole package. i did and do love chloe but david seems a little more refined. BUT chloe always pulls it off flawlessly. tough decision.

listen here muji!

the name "MUJI" is a spin-off from the japanese phrase "mujirushi ryohin," meaning "no brand goods." in the past 20 years, they have developed a worldwide following with an attitude that emphasizes modern and simple materials, processes, and packaging. products are streamlined, environmentally friendly, and beautiful in their simplicity, usually constructed of cardboard and electronic components. MUJI is not only an internationally renowned company, but for many people is a way of life. their first store opened in Japan in 1983 and is hugely popular today [just ask greg -who rocks- over at daddytypes], their principles of design minimalism, use of innovative materials, and economical packaging have attracted the attention of diligent consumers worldwide. MUJI's diligent focus for high quality and economical raw materials includes remnants and disposable materials. these ideals are upheld in MUJI's manufacturing systems as well, in their attempt to streamline the design process and eliminate over-manufacturing. even their packaging stresses restraint, uniformity and a commitment to reducing waste. available at moma online, portable cardboard speakers $42.00 US size: 3.25h x 3.5w x 3.25"l made in japan. totally diggin' that packaging but it does pose a question......great on design but how about that sound quatlity? hmmm, better look up what everyone is saying.
